Mighty Worship
God on Monday
Read previous
'David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the Lord with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals' (2 Samuel 6:5).
Reflection
David had serious faults but he had a heart for worship and sought after God. This is reflected in the verse above, which comes from an account of him leading the people of Israel as they move the Ark of the Lord to Jerusalem. As the Ark, which symbolized God’s presence, neared its destination, David’s worship became intense, even ecstatic.
We too have good reason to celebrate God. But bursting into song, or dance, or playing ‘lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals’ may not be our thing. But think about the energy and vigour most of us put into our work. Can we not also put them into our worship?
As we consider what lies ahead, perhaps we can approach things differently. Why not make a concerted attempt to bring God’s presence into every aspect of the week ahead of us? God basks in our worship and longs to be with us in all we do. Let us not, then, confine our worship this week to our times alone or with other Christians. Let us find ways to worship God in every situation in which we find ourselves.
To help me do this, I will compile a new worship playlist on Spotify, which I can play on loop in a variety of contexts. This should help me embed the truth that worship is for the whole of life, and to make that truth more of a habit. But you will be able to think of a strategy that works best for you. What will it be?
Response
If you decide to join me this week in giving a special focus to whole-life worship, how will what you learn help you in future to bring more of God‘s presence into every aspect of your life?
Prayer
Lord, your servant David led your people in worshipping you with all their might. Strengthen my will to worship you in every sitution I encounter this week, and fill each one of them with your presence. Amen.
