Becoming Blameless
God on Monday

He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you may be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the partnership of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Corinthians 1.8-9).
Reflection
God equips believers for righteous living, and they will one day be blameless. That is the message the Apostle Paul seeks to convey in the passage from which these two verses are drawn.
The workplace can be challenging. Provocation, injustice and dissatisfaction are commonplace. Even when we are successful, there are strong temptations to think and act in lesser ways than those we are called to as Christians.
The Bible is written by and for people who live in a fallen world. It is written to point people to Christ – his birth, ministry, death, resurrection and return. Jesus is coming back, and we will all need to stand before him.
That is the true context of our daily lives. It means we live in anticipation, as we teach children, drive buses, monitor patients, attend staff meetings, pay bills, meet targets, juggle the demands of work, and try to be salt and light to the people around us.
We may repeatedly fail God in the way we meet these demands. But today’s verses remind us that what matters is God’s faithfulness to us, rather our faithfulness to God. It is within God’s power, not ours, for us to become blameless.
Depend on that power this week, as you live and work in anticipation of Christ’s return.
Response
How can our anticipation of Christ’s return help shape our response to the setbacks and successes we face in our work, especially in terms of our relationships with those with whom we work?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your faithfulness as we live and work awaiting your return. May our anticipation of that return translate into practical action that gives light to those around us. Deliver us from the distractions and temptations our everyday ups and downs bring us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
